We offer year-round ecological cruises through the Tapajós River Basin, immersing you in one of the Amazon's most biodiverse and culturally rich regions. This untouched wilderness is home to an extraordinary variety of flora and fauna, from pink river dolphins and giant water lilies to endemic bird species and the elusive jaguar. In addition to this breathtaking natural beauty, you’ll engage with the deep-rooted traditions and knowledge of local communities, such as the Munduruku people, who call the Tapajós "Ocekadi," meaning "our river, our place."
The Tapajós River is the fifth-largest watershed in the Amazon and one of the region's major clearwater rivers. Its journey from the savannas of Mato Grosso to the Amazon Rainforest in Pará offers crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and ancient forests—creating an idyllic backdrop for your adventure.
With over 16 years of experience in the Amazon, I chose the Tapajós as the heart of our expeditions because it is my favorite place on Earth. This region is a mosaic of conservation and Indigenous lands, boasting over 40,000 plant species, 800 bird species, 427 mammal species, and 3,000 fish species. It's also protected by ten conservation units and 19 Indigenous territories, which we actively collaborate with to support sustainable projects like the Water Guardians and Forest Guardians.
Our journey begins in Santarém, at the convergence of the Tapajós and Amazon Rivers. From here, we embark on a voyage that merges exploration, culture, and conservation, taking you through some of the most stunning landscapes in the Amazon. Highlights of the Experience
Jari Channel Exploration
The Canal do Jari is at its most spectacular during the river’s flood season, offering an immersive experience into the Amazon’s vibrant ecosystem. This area is a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife observers, as we navigate through waters that reveal a rich tapestry of flora and fauna.
As we cruise along the canal, you’ll be surrounded by stunning landscapes — lush Amazonian vegetation, traditional riverside houses, and the iconic giant water lilies. This is a prime opportunity to spot a wide variety of wildlife, including sloths, monkeys, alligators, and, if we’re lucky, pink river dolphins.
During our journey, we'll make a special stop to visit Dona Dulce, a pioneer in Amazonian gastronomy, who has elevated the humble water lily into a culinary art form. Guests are welcomed with a tray of unique Amazonian delicacies — from water lily brownies and cassava flour popcorn to tempura and water lily "potato" chips.
After enjoying this distinctive feast, we’ll set out on the Enchanted Forest Trail, also known as the Sloth Trail. During the dry season, we’ll trek on foot, following a path rich in biodiversity. As the name suggests, this trail is home to the elusive sloth, along with other fascinating creatures native to the region.
FLONA Jamaraquá: Exploring the Tapajós National Forest
The Tapajós National Forest (FLONA) is one of the Amazon's most remarkable federal conservation areas, spanning an impressive 527,319 hectares. This region, rich in biodiversity, offers a rare glimpse into the heart of the Amazon's ecosystems. Established in 1974, FLONA’s mission is the sustainable use of forest resources and scientific research, with a focus on sustainable exploitation techniques for native forests.
On this journey, travelers will hike through the forest guided by local experts and community members, discovering an incredible variety of flora, including medicinal plants and towering ancient trees. This trail also offers a unique opportunity to witness rare wildlife in its natural habitat. As we reach the refreshing crystal-clear waters of Jamaraquá, there’s nothing better than taking a swim in this secluded Amazonian stream, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest. Whether arriving by big boat, speed boat, or by car, this experience promises a deep connection to one of the most untouched parts of the world.
FLONA Maguary: Into the Heart of the Wild
For the ultimate wilderness experience, the Maguary trail is a true adventure. This 11-mile trek through the dense rainforest takes two days to complete, offering an immersive and intense connection to the Amazon. We break the journey into two parts — trekking half the distance on day one, spending the night deep within the forest, and finishing the other half on day two. Sleeping under the canopy in the deep forest offers the possibility of witnessing some of the Amazon's elusive wildlife, including jaguars.
The highlight of this journey is meeting the Samaúma, the oldest and largest tree in the region, a majestic giant that takes 28 people to fully embrace. Standing before this tree is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as its sheer size and presence are awe-inspiring.
For those seeking a shorter adventure, the Maguary short trail offers a 5-mile hike with the added delight of swimming in a crystal-clear Amazon stream. Whether you choose the long or short trail, this journey deep into the Tapajós region will leave an indelible mark on your soul.
Visit the Munduruku People: Guardians of the Forest and Water
As stewards of their land, the Munduruku people are deeply committed to protecting the rich biodiversity of the Tapajós region. Home to 23 families in the village of Bragança, located within the Tapajós National Forest, this community plays a vital role in preserving both the cultural and ecological heritage of the area.
The Munduruku have launched two critical conservation initiatives: the Water Guardians and Forest Guardians projects, both of which we actively collaborate with. These initiatives are aimed at protecting the water sources and the lush rainforest ecosystems that form the lifeblood of this region. By visiting the Munduruku, you’ll gain firsthand insights into their sustainable practices and how they coexist with the environment.
This part of the expedition includes an immersive visit to their village, where you'll learn about their conservation efforts, traditional ecological knowledge, and how they’re leading the way in rainforest preservation.
For wildlife enthusiasts, the adventure continues into the night with gator spotting by canoe. As you silently navigate the waterways under the stars, keep an eye out for alligators and other nocturnal creatures that thrive in the dense vegetation and tranquil waters.
This visit not only offers a rare glimpse into the life of an Indigenous community deeply connected to nature but also allows you to contribute to meaningful conservation efforts that protect the very ecosystems you're exploring.
Exploring the Arapiuns River and the Coroca Community: A Haven of Sustainability
Our journey brings us to the pristine waters of the Arapiuns River, a hidden gem in the Amazon with crystal-clear, warm water and stunning white sand beaches. Swimming in these tranquil waters is a truly paradisiacal experience, offering moments of serenity amidst the untouched beauty of the rainforest.
As we pass through, we will visit the Coroca Community, located on the banks of the Arapiuns River. Known for its exceptional communal organization, Coroca is a model of sustainable living deeply rooted in the traditional "puxirum" system—where neighbors unite in collective efforts for farming and other community projects. Established in the 1920s by the Santos family, this community has upheld its values of shared labor and cooperation for nearly a century.
Today, the community thrives on projects like fish farming, beekeeping, and the production of the award-winning "Arapiuns Weavings", which are crafted using techniques passed down through generations. These initiatives are part of their larger agroforestry efforts, designed to both restore the environment and support sustainable tourism, offering travelers an authentic and eco-conscious experience.
During your visit, you’ll have the chance to learn about these sustainable practices, all while connecting with a community that is deeply committed to protecting and preserving their local environment. This stop combines relaxation, ecological awareness, and a meaningful glimpse into the harmonious relationship between people and nature in this remote corner of the Amazon.

Explore Maicá Lake: A Sanctuary for Wildlife
Maicá Lake offers a short but magical glimpse into the Amazon’s biodiversity. This natural fish nursery is a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Whether early in the morning or late in the afternoon, you’ll be surrounded by calm waters and incredible wildlife. Expect to spot vibrant herons, toucans, macaws, japiins, and even reptiles as they move through the area. The tranquility of Maicá Lake makes it an ideal location for fishing or simply immersing yourself in the serene beauty of the Amazon's flora and fauna.
Witness the Majestic Meeting of the Waters in Santarém
A must-see natural phenomenon, the Meeting of the Waters is where the Amazon River meets the Tapajós, creating a stunning contrast between the dark waters of the Amazon and the crystal-clear waters of the Tapajós. This short tour allows you to witness one of the most breathtaking sights in the region—a visual spectacle of two rivers flowing side by side, without mixing. Pirarimbó: An Immersive Amazonian Celebration
Pirarimbó is a unique fusion of the traditional Piracaia (Amazonian barbecue) and the vibrant rhythms of Carimbó, led by locals from Alter do Chão. Rooted in the rich culinary traditions and cultural expressions of Western Pará, Pirarimbó is far more than just an event—it is a living celebration of Amazonian heritage.
Originating in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pirarimbó was conceived as a safe, intimate gathering that allowed participants to connect deeply with the culture of the forest, away from crowds. Set against the backdrop of the Tapajós River or Lago Verde, this celebration often takes place under the full moon or a sky filled with stars, transporting participants to a time when life was simpler, and nature and ancestry were in perfect harmony.

Your Home on the Water: The Nenga Riverboat
The Nenga is a spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped three-story riverboat that will be your home throughout the expedition. Designed to balance comfort and adventure, the boat ensures you experience the Amazon in style while still being deeply connected to nature. Here’s what you can expect onboard:
· First Floor:
The first floor offers a large, air-conditioned dining room, perfect for enjoying your gourmet meals in comfort. Behind the dining room is an open deck where you can relax and enjoy the views. The floor also features:
o Two small air-conditioned cabins, each with bunk beds, private bathrooms, and showers.
o A Master Suite, complete with a double bed, air conditioning, and a private bathroom.
o An additional shared bathroom is also available.
· Below Deck (Crew Quarters):
Our experienced and friendly crew will take care of your every need. The crew includes:
o A skilled cook and assistant to prepare delicious meals.
o The boat’s captain and an assistant to ensure smooth sailing and your safety.
· Second Floor:
The second floor has both an open area for lounging and a fully enclosed room that can be used as a sleeping area for up to four people, featuring two beds and two mattresses that can be laid on the floor. This floor also has another Master Suite with air conditioning and a private bathroom, along with a room equipped with air conditioning for added comfort.
· Third Floor (Upper Deck):
The top floor is a spacious, open deck with benches lining the sides, providing the perfect spot to take in panoramic views of the Amazon as you glide down the river. Whether it’s for watching a spectacular sunrise or stargazing at night, this deck offers the best vantage point to experience the beauty of the Rainforest.

Day 1: Arrival in Santarém & Boarding the Vessel
